Preliminary Statement: Jesus is…

At the beginning of our Christology course we were asked to write a one-page submission to talk about our perceptions of Jesus.   This is what I submitted.

Christ the PantokratorJesus is…

the example we have received of what it looks like to live in close relationship with God, breaking down the barriers of human culture and recognizing the inter-dependent nature of us all as God’s children.

the name that reminds me that God delivers us all – that the struggles of my life, while sometimes quite difficult or painful, are of little consequence when viewed with God in mind.  Sometimes moving outside of the rules I know or understand to change events, but always with me (and us), as we make our way through our lives.

the one who loves me unconditionally and without end.  Though he challenges me to become more fully what God has created me to be, he is also the one that I know does not reject me when my performance, my thoughts or my attitudes are less than all they can be.

Jesus, what a beautiful name
Son of God, Son of Man
Lamb that was slain
Joy and peace, strength and hope
Grace that blows all fear away
Jesus, what a beautiful name

Jesus, what a beautiful name
Truth revealed, my future sealed
Healed my pain
Love and freedom, life and warmth
Grace that blows all fear away
Jesus, what a beautiful name

Jesus, what a beautiful name
Rescued my soul, my stronghold
Lifts me from shame
Forgiveness, security, power and love
Grace that blows all fear away
Jesus, what a beautiful name
